Line of Duty's Steve Arnott has led to 22% increase in waistcoat enquiries

The new series of Line of Duty has led to a surge in interest in waistcoats with gripped viewers taking fashion inspiration from Steve Arnott.

When you think of Line of Duty, you might wonder who the elusive ‘H’ is or if DCI Jo Davidson is well and truly a ‘bent copper.’

However, as the latest series nears its dramatic climax on Sunday, viewers have taken fashion inspiration from Martin Compston's character Steve Arnott, according to new analysis from ecommerce company Salesfire.

It turns out the cop's swish waistcoats, for which he has become famous and that the ladies on the show seem to love, are proving a real hit in the real world.

Salesfire has crunched the numbers to reveal that Google searches for ‘waistcoat’ saw a 22% rose from February to March, when the sixth season of the show started airing.

With the British public preparing to socialise again, could we see more people wearing waistcoats at the pub, or in the office?

Rich Himsworth, CEO of Salesfire, said: ‘Line of Duty is the nation’s favourite TV show right now, and now we’re heading back to see people, we have an excuse to get dressed up.

"We’re seeing an uptake in searches for more formal outfits like waistcoats, along with an overall increase in menswear."
