Line of Duty's Patricia Carmichael on 'being H' after pen tap in interview scene

Anna Maxwell Martin has spoken out following accusations that her character Patricia Carmichael is H in Line of Duty.

Anna appeared on This Morning today to speak about the hit BBC show with hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

Line of Duty fans are convinced that Pat is H after she tapped out H in morse code with her pen in last night's tense interview scene.

Phil and Holly grilled Anna on the fan theories and questioned her as to who H was.

But she said: "When I was filming Line of Duty, I was filming Motherland at the same time, so I was rushing onto each set and I just can’t remember anything…. Either that or they play tricks on you and when they drop you off in Belfast they blank your mind, so you can’t remember anything."

On Patricia’s four clicks of the pen which set Twitter alight last night, Anna said: "I think I was just bored. Those scenes are very long. I think I was like, ‘What am I saying next?’"

Speaking from her home in Hertfordshire, Anna said she just "went for it" with the role of Patricia.

She said: "There were a couple of bits [in the script] where she was nasty and I just went for it. And then she morphed into a horror show.

“I think she’s just misunderstood, she’s just trying to do her job. She probably just wants a nice cuddle, Pat. She’s just a bit cross.”

When Philip asked if she thinks Pat is insecure, Anna said: “Yes, course she is, Phil. Yes, you’ve got no idea of what’s going on in Pat’s house. She is a bit of a power freak, I suppose.”

And on Patricia’s relationship with Ted Hastings, she said: “Ted needs to toughen up a bit, doesn’t he? Poor old Ted, I’m worried about myself, people really hate me because they really love Ted. She’s definitely his nemesis and that’s really good fun. We have good fun filming the scenes."

*This Morning continues at 10am on ITV tomorrow
