Line of Duty's Martin Compston sparks season 7 rumours as cast meet up for cosy lunch

Martin Compston has sent the Line of Duty season 7 rumours into overdrive with his latest Instagram post.

The 38-year-old Scottish actor enjoyed a cosy lunch with his co-stars Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar, as well as the show's creator Jed Mercurio, this week and he couldn't resist capturing the moment on camera.

The trio are seen enjoying some food alfresco as well as sharing a bottle of wine, which could be seen in the middle of the table.

Martin simply captioned the post: "Talking tattoo designs," alongside a red heart emoji.

Many of Martin's followers felt this was a massive reference to the hit BBC series because the cast were said to have agreed to get matching tattoos following the huge success of series six after it reached over 12 million in viewer ratings.

Martin's 581,000 followers immediately began liking and commenting on the post, with one rather excited person writing: "COME ON!! WE NEED LOD7!!"

Another said: "mother of God let's hope another series," while a third added: "OMG it’s happening!"

A different fan commented: "this better be what I think it is," while someone else asked: "Can you talk LOD 7 please!"

Martin's post comes after he revealed a few months ago that he actually took inspiration from none other than Dermot O'Leary for his role as DI Steve Arnott.

Whilst he ditches his native Scottish accent for the role in Line Of Duty, he admitted it can be a struggle to try and perfect his English accent for the popular BBC show - and so he looked to Dermot to help him get the right voice.

Fans are desperate for there to be a seventh season of Line of Duty (BBC)

"I can tell in those moments I'm really straining with certain words, and looking back I think my performance is quite flat in the first one," he said on an episode of Jessie and Lennie Ware's Table Manners podcast.

"I was trying to get back into the accent and I started listening to people and Dermot’s a really good sounding board for the accent. I was like, 'I want a piece of that, sounds like fun.'"
