Line of Duty's Martin Compston 'shaken' after horror crash destroys his cab

Line of Duty star Martin Compston was left ' very shaken' after a horror crash destroyed his cab.

The 34-year-old was 'lucky' to come out unscathed after a HGV smashed into the side of the taxi where he was sitting in Salford, Manchester on Thursday.

Martin, who plays DS Steve Arnott in the thrilling BBC cop drama, was on his way to a hotel when the truck smashed into his door.

Dashcam footage of the shocking incident shows Martin walking around in disbelief as he watched the drivers swap details.

Cab driver Derek Burton, 71, heard a bang so loud that he thought it was a bomb as Martin screamed.

Line of Duty boss denies Martin Compston has been offered new two-series deal

He told The Sun : "There was a thundering bang. I thought it was a bomb. Martin screamed . We didn’t know what happened. We hadn’t seen the truck.

“It smashed into where he was sitting. Martin’s door was bashed in. It was probably doing 10mph but was so big it destroyed the cab.”

The cabbie reportedly swapped details with the trucker as Martin asked: "What the hell happened?"

It is thought Martin got into another vehicle sent by the BBC to take him to the hotel.

The "thoroughly decent bloke" also gave Derek his phone number in case he needed him for anything.

The Mirror has contacted Martin's reps for a comment.

Martin hit the headlines earlier this week after reports he had been offered a new two-series deal.

With series five about to reach a gripping climax, writer Jed Mercurio was said to have wanted to keep Compston on board beyond the planned sixth instalment of the hit BBC cop drama.

However, the creator angrily denied any plans are afoot for more seasons of the popular cop show.

He tweeted: "I’m not writing S6 let alone S7."

*Line of Duty airs on Sundays on BBC One at 9pm
