Line Of Duty's Martin Compston says finale episode 'might be the perfect ending'

Line Of Duty's Martin Compston has said there will be "big answers" in the series six finale and believes the episode could be the "perfect ending" to the police drama.

The actor, who plays DI Steve Arnott, talked about the "story arch coming to an end" ahead of the highly-anticipated instalment on Sunday, May 2, but refused to rule out another season.

Following a string of cliff hangers, viewers of the BBC One show are desperate to find out the identity of the "fourth man" known as H. Earlier this week ITV's Phillip Schofield teased a special guest from Line of Duty would be on This Morning on Monday, leading many to believe the elusive H would finally be revealed during the finale.

Now Martin has appeared to confirm loose ends will be tied up. According to The Mirror, he was quizzed about H's identity on the Shrine of Duty podcast, and said: "What I will tell you is I think there's a lot of pay offs coming this Sunday."

He added: "There's a lot of big answers and it's deserved, people have stuck with us for a long time, so there comes a point where the story arch comes to an end."

Discussing the potential of a series seven, Martin admitted he was in the dark.

He said: "The genuine answer is we don't know, but that's nothing new. Jed always takes time after a series, like a couple of months. There's a lot of stuff above my pay grade like analytics and audience scores. He takes the emotion out of it and looks at all that."

Martin later added: "When we get 10 years in, you start to think of legacy, and if it goes down that well in some ways it might be the perfect ending.

"We won't do [another series] just for the sake of doing it. That won't happen. Jed will only do it if he feels there's a story there to be told."

The Line of Duty series six finale airs Sunday, May 2 at 9pm on BBC One.
