Line of Duty's Martin Compston says fans will 'need therapy' after Sunday's episode

Line of Duty star Marton Compston has warned viewers that they could "need therapy" after this weekend's episode of the BBC show.

The sixth series of the popular drama is currently airing on BBC1 on Sundays and has left viewers on the edge of their seats.

The last episode ended with a major cliffhanger as AC-12 discovered a new detail about Jo Davidson.

Martin's character DI Steve Arnott and DC Chloe Bishop gave Superintendent Ted Hastings a file proving a DNA link between Davidson and another person, to which he said: "Mother of God" as the episode ended abruptly.

The episode also saw a dramatic shoot out for AC-12, leading to many questioning the loyalty of DC Bishop as well as the extent PC Ryan Pilkington will go to in order to keep himself on the inside - reports the Manchester Evening News.

Teasing what is to come this week, Martin shared a spoiler image of himself in character to Instagram and said: "Episode 5 kicks off as stores re-open and there’s a sale on waistcoats.

"In all seriousness though if you thought Ep 4 ended on a cliffhanger, you’ll need therapy by the end of Ep5."

And viewers were quick to tell Martin they couldn't wait to watch the episode.

One said: "Too much teasing Martin I cant."

Another said: "STOP IT NAIIIII I can’t take it."

And a third said: "Don’t think my heart can take this."

What we do know about the upcoming episode is that Anna Maxwell Martin will reprise her role as Detective Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael.

The BBC confirmed the character's return earlier this week and her return comes as Ted, played by Adrian Dunbar, is facing a forced retirement and a new merger between AC-3, AC-9 and AC-12.

Carmichael last appeared in series five when she was brought in as an independent investigator amid doubts over the integrity of Superintendent Ted Hastings.
