Line of Duty's Martin Compston rallies Scotland before crunch Croatia game

Martin Compston has willed Scotland to victory against Croatia with a spirited post, telling the team that the whole country is behind them.

Like many other Scottish fans Martin, best known for playing Steve Arnott in Line of Duty, is hoping that the Steve Clarke's team get a result against their Group D rivals on Tuesday night, so they can join England in the next round.

The team, who put in an impressive display against England at Wembley on Friday, have been dealt a big blow ahead of the crunch clash against Croatia after fan favourite Billy Gilmour tested positive for coronavirus.

Having fared rather well in major tournaments in the past and drawn against the Czech Republic on Friday, Martin predicts they'll be tough opponents for Scotland at Hampden Park, but encouraged the team to give it their all and make history.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday morning, he wrote: "They haven’t been great but Croatia were in last World Cup final for a reason and have a Ballon D’or winner (Modric) as their skipper.

"That said a home tie to reach knock out stages can’t ask for much more. Go full tilt at it lads @ScotlandNT whole country behind ye, verge of history!"

Referencing past form, one of his many followers responded: "Croatia have never won against Scotland in a competitive game even friendlies they didn’t win we should get the win.

"Here’s to tonight let’s do this “buzzing” for this."

A second told the actor: "That Croatia squad is an ageing squad @martin_compston.

"I think it's an advantage that we've got them in the 3rd game. Mind you Scotland do have the ability to f**k it up royally. But COME ON THE LADS!"

Another said that if Scotland do make it through, Martin should recreate Scotland's viral dressing room celebration after they clinched Euros qualification against Serbia.

Will we see Martin belting out a bit of Yes Sir, I Can Boogie? Keep your eyes on his Twitter after 9.45pm tonight to find out!
