Line of Duty's Martin Compston hits out at Our House co-stars being 'too tall'

Scottish actor Martin Compston says he's fed up of playing roles alongside stars who are much taller than him.

The Line of Duty star, 37, measures the same height as Simon Cowell, Ed Sheeran and James Corden at 5ft 8in.

And in his latest on-screen role in TV drama Our House, he had to star alongside Spooks hunk Rupert Penry Jones.

But Martin admitted there was one big problem while working with Rupert.

He told Daily Star: "My only problem is that he is so tall.

"It seems that any actor playing a character I have a grievance with and have to fight on set is always over six feet two."

Despite this, Martin - who plays family man Bram Lawson - is excited for the new thriller to air on ITV on March 7.

In the series, Martin's character Bram cheats on his wife Fi (Tuppence Middleton), causing them to split up.

Rupert then comes home one day and finds complete strangers living in their home, claiming it is theirs.

Speaking about the drama, Martin said: "You get to the end of one episode and you are desperate for the next.

"It gives people something to talk about. It is built for that watercooler mentality. It is very exciting telly."

Martin is best known for playing Steve Arnott in BBC's cop drama Line of Duty.

He is such a big fan of the show that he dresses his baby son in waistcoats, according to his co-star Vicky McClure.

After his first child was born last year, his co-stars Vicky and Adrian Dunbar bought his son a waistcoat so they could match.

She previously told Daily Star: "Martin has already got plenty of waistcoats, so he doesn’t need any more!

“But when Martin had his baby, we did buy the baby a waistcoat.

“When we film Line Of Duty together, we tend to shoot up until Christmas so we always get wrap party presents for each other too and they’re always very thoughtful.”

Sales of waistcoats at John Lewis soared due to viewers wanting to look like Martin's Line of Duty character.

In its 2021 Shop, Live, Look report, John Lewis said: “As the sixth series of Line of Duty reached its crescendo, you could forget ‘H’ – it was all about ‘W’. Waistcoats.

“Sales of waistcoats rose 114 per cent between May and August as Line of Duty fever swept the country.

“The nattily-dressed DS Arnott was to blame. We know the series was behind this trend: prior to it starting, waistcoat sales were tracking down by 75 per cent.”
