Line of Duty's Martin Compston confuses English fans with response to Scots bar's new mural

Line of Duty's Martin Compston confused English fans of the hit cop show after he replied to a bar that featured his face on their new mural.

The Old Bank Bar in Martin's hometown of Greenock featured an incredible artwork of his face on their wall following a recent refurb.

Fans sent Martin pictures of themselves posing by the artwork.

And followers have also sent him pictures 'Compston-politan' cocktails - a drink which has his face on created by Edinburgh's Rose Street Gardens.

Martin wrote on his social media: "For all the lovely folk sending me pics in front of or with one of those it really does put a smile on my coupon cheers."

He added: "Huge thanks to @oldbankbargreenock and @rosestreetgarden for doing them in the first place genuinely chuffed with them."

However, Martin's comment confused the non-Scots amongst this fans who asked for an explanation of the word coupon - meaning face in Scotland.

One said: "On my coupon? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?"

A second quizzed: "Coupon?"

Another added: "Love that Martin uses his West Coast terminology In Scotland/The West we say “Whits up wi your coupon?” meaning “what’s the matter with your face?” We tend to say that if someone’s facial expression doesn’t look too enthusiastic."

The pub has created a new cocktail in the Line of Duty star's honour (Rose Street Garden)

And someone else commented: "Coupon....love it! Not heard that word for a few years.....Scottish lassie living down South....."

And one remarked: " Congrats on the cocktail! Should have your face on the toilet roll holders too for a propa line of duty."

Martin's Line of Duty co-star Vicky McClure wrote: “Amazing mate!” and Outlander actor Steven Cree also commented: "Amazing!"
