Line of Duty's Martin Compston and Kelly Macdonald lead nominations at BAFTA Scotland awards

Line of Duty's Martin Compston and Kelly Macdonald will join other nominees including James McAvoy, Lawrence Chaney, Tilda Swinton, Jack Lowden as finalists at this year's Scottish BAFTA ceremony.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 20 in BBC Scotland's HQ at Pacific Quay in Glasgow with Edith Bowman as host, alongside Still Game's Sanjeev Kohli and others.

And this year sees Limbo, the comedy-drama about a group of asylum seekers living on a Scottish island, lead the way with five nominations closely followed by police thriller Line of Duty and late night car crash drama Run with three nominations each.

First time nominees include Limbo actors Vikash Bhai and Amir El-Masry who will compete in the best film actor category, along with other new name Mark Stanley of Run.

It's a Sin actor David Carlyle also joins RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner Lawrence Chaney, Jean Johansson of A Place in the Sun Des star David Tennant as well as Line of Duty's Kelly Macdonald and Martin Compston on the shortlist for the BAFTA Audience Award.

It gives members of the public an opportunity to vote for their favourite Scot on screen over the last 12 months.

Outlander's Sam Heughan nor his Men In Kilts co-star Graham McTavish do not appear to be mentioned in this category, despite fans pushing for both to be nominated.

BAFTA first timer Marli Siu from Run also goes up against Tilda Swinton, who starred in The Personal History of David Copperfield, in the best film actress category, along with Kindred actress Tamara Lawrance.

Kelly Macdonald, is also nominated as best TV actress alongside Abigail Lawrie of Tin Star: Liverpool and Sharon Rooney of Finding Alice.

And in the best TV actor category Samll Axe's Jack Lowden goes up against Together's James McAvoy, and Peter Mullen (Fatbaws).

Documentaries nominated for an award include singer KT Tunstall’s portrait of cult poet, singer and songwriter Ivor Cutler and Anthony Baxter’s film about the late north-east landscape painter James Morrison.

BBC documentary The Trial of Alex Salmond is also nominated in the news and current affairs category.

BAFTA Scotland director Jude MacLaverty said: "We’re thrilled to be announcing the nominations for this year’s BAFTA Scotland Awards, which yet again highlight the phenomenal level of talent and creativity in the film, game and television industries within Scotland.

"We’re particularly excited to announce so many incredible first time nominees this year and also to announce that this year’s audience Award in partnership with Screen Scotland, will celebrate on screen talent, giving the public the opportunity to vote for their favourite Scot on screen from the past 12 months.

"This year has continued to be an extremely challenging one for many, and throughout it, the film, gaming and TV industries have continued to inform and entertain us all with a wealth of quality, programming, innovative games and important films, which is reflected in our list of talented nominees.”

Edith Bowman added: "I’m genuinely honoured and thrilled to be returning to host the BAFTA Scotland Awards again this year.

"I'm so proud of all the incredible work and wealth of creative talent and craft that exists in Scotland."
