Line of Duty's Buckells: Who is the actor who plays him?

Line of Duty's DCI Ian Buckells has been an incompetent thorn in AC-12's side since way back in series one.

Viewers couldn't believe that he was back as the Hillside station commander in series six.

With his silly name courtesy of Kate Fleming ('Crap suits') Buckells' figure of fun was hauled in front of the Three AC-12 Amigos in the series six finale to answer questions about his connection to the OCG.

But who is the actor who plays Buckells?

Who is Nigel Boyle?

Brummie actor Nigel is a familiar face with UK TV viewers for the past decade and a bit.

Other than playing Buckells in Line of Duty since 2012 – he's been in series one, four, and six – lots of people will know him from The Inbetweeners in which he played 'Barman Two' who chucked out Will, Jay, Simon and Neil's entire year group after Will tells him they are all underage.

Nigel has also played a policeman in Peaky Blinders and Home Fires and was teacher Mr Hamley in Small Axe.

He's also been in This Time With Alan Partridge, Count Arthur Strong, and The End of the F**king World.

Anything else we should know about Nigel?

He's a massive Aston Villa fan and also loves reggae.

He's also over the moon to be in Line of Duty, telling Digital Spy back in 2017: "I think it was about this time last year – February/March time – that I got a call from my agent saying I'd been availability-checked for Line of Duty (series four) and I was ecstatic. I was absolutely over the moon!

"I always had a glimmer of hope. After the first series my mates were like, 'Are you coming back in the second series?' and when I told them I wasn't they were like: 'Noooo, we have to get Buckells back!'"
