Line of Duty may not re-start filming until 2021 after series six halted

Impatient Line of Duty fans are set to face a very long wait until the highly anticipated sixth series hits our screens.

The high-paced police drama was due to make a return in September.

But the coronavirus outbreak halted filming four weeks in - and plunged writers into chaos.

There are currently no clear guidelines for when they will be able to get the cameras rolling again.

But now producer Jed Mercurio has conceded there is a good chance they won't be back on set this year.

Asked how confident he is that filming could re-start in 2020, he told Andrew Marr : "I still think it’s something that is in doubt.

“A lot of people are working very hard to come up with codes of practice within the TV industry.

“Until testing, trace and isolate is put into place in wilder society it is going to be hard for anyone.

"We can’t make productions in a bubble. The cast and crew go home and mix with others - they can’t work in isolation."

Vicky McClure, who plays hard hitting Detective Inspector Kate Fleming, was also a guest on the Sunday morning show.

But she says they can only return when life is back to normal.

"It was a blow," she said. "It was strange as we were on set and it was all unfolding.

"It’s a massive blow for everybody but we will get back up and running when it’s safe.

"We are desperate to get back but we can’t rush it. It’s got to be when it’s safe."

Adrian Dunbar, cop chief Superintendent Ted Hastings on the BBC series, is worried about the show's future.

While he can't wait to get back into the role, he confessed he was a little "worried" about what might happen when it does eventually return.
