Line of Duty gets Friends parody - and everybody is loving it

Mixing a dark British police drama with a 90s American comedy might not sound like it would work but thanks to the BBC - it well and truly did.

Millions of us have been gripped by the return of Line of Duty as we edge further to finding out the true identity of 'H' thanks to team AC-12.

Or so we hope at least.

But despite the edge of your seat scenes that leave us awake hours after the show has ended, the brains behind the BBC's social media accounts have offered us some light relief and it's pretty epic.

The Line of Duty Friends parody video, which was released on Sunday, April 14, sees characters including Ted Hastings, Kate Fleming and Steve Arnott all transformed into the much-loved sitcom all in the style of its opening scenes to TV theme tune I'll Be There For You.

A Line Of Duty and Friends crossover anyone? (BBC)

And it seems where not the only fans as the 95-second clip has racked up almost 400,000 views in 24 hours with some very clever comments to boot.

One said: "Whoever did this need a pay rise."

Another added: "I don't know who made this but I think I'm in love with them."

"Whoever did this - I want to buy you a drink! Just brilliant!!!" commented a third.

One Twitter user even named the episode in true Friends style - "The One Where God Gives Hastings Strength" - thanks to Ted's constant anguish.

Though a LOD fan was quick to spot a flaw.

They added: "Lies. Nobody was there for Lindsay Denton," which is a great point as Detective Inspector Denton met a grizzly end when she was murdered by DS "Dot" Cottan in series three.

The BBC put out the clever clip ahead of Sunday night's episode which has left fans speculating whether they have cracked the mystery surrounding the illusive 'H' - a bent copper helping organised crime groups.

The cop drama, created by Jed Mercurio, returned to TV screens at the end of March for a six-part series - two years since viewers were left wanting more after series four's nail biting finale.

We'll certainly be there when Line Of Duty returns on BBC at 9pm on Sunday.
