Line of Duty fans furious as This Morning drops major spoilers without warning

Line of Duty fans are furious after major spoilers were revealed at the start of today's This Morning.

Before the opening credits had even started rolling, This Morning jumped straight into a parody skit of the BBC drama.

Presenter Rochelle Humes was in her dressing room getting her hair done while discussing the dramatic ending to Sunday night's season finale.

Corrupt lawyer Gill Biggeloe was exposed trying to frame Superintendent Ted Hastings before the big reveal that 'H' is actually four different people.

Speaking to a crew member, she said: "Oh my goodness did you see Line of Duty last night? I can't believe there's another 'H' out there. I wonder if it's another Irishman in the frame?"

Suspicious Eamonn then popped his head round the door of the dressing room.

He said: "Mother of god. Did you ever see so many bent coppers as you did last night? Awful."

Rochelle replied: "Good morning Mr 'H'."

Spilling more secrets from the finale, the words "urgent exit required" then appeared on a phone she was holding.

Angry Line of Duty fans, who weren't some of the 10 million watching the last episode of the series, took to Twitter to express their frustration.

One furious viewer said: "Cheers @thismorning for ruining #LineOfDuty!!!"

"Nice of #thismorning to give spoilers away in the intro. D***heads," added another.

A third agreed: "Thanks v. much for putting the f***ing #LineOfDuty spoiler on the screen so that as you're channel hopping you find out the thing you've been trying to avoid until you've caught up. F***ing p****s."

However, other viewers insisted they only had themselves to blame.

Defending This Morning, one fan said: "Cue all the people whinging about #LineofDuty spoilers. You knew it was ending last night, so this morning’s television and social media is probably not the place for you!"

The opening sketch was followed by an interview with Line of Duty star Polly Walker, whose character Gill was revealed to be one of the identities of 'H'.

The actress admitted she didn't watch the series finale, despite being exposed as the 'snake in the grass'.

Asked whether alternative endings were filmed to keep the outcome a secret, Polly said: "No alternative endings. I knew two episodes before [we filmed the finale] what was happening, I knew she was up to no good but I didn’t know to what extent she was a snake in the grass. [Ted] should have known better. He’s not her type…"

On whether Gill will be in the next series, Polly added: "I think everything is up for grabs. I don’t think anybody knows other than the puppet master Jed Mercurio. Who knows? I think Gill being Gill, this is my theory, she is such a survivor. She won’t be playing Sudoku in her sitting room for too long, I think she will be looking for ways to survive and get on."

*This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am
