Line of Duty fans convinced James Nesbitt's Marcus Thurwell is Jo Davidson's fake dad

Line of Duty fans have come up with a theory about who Jo Davidson thought her dad was.

In last week's explosive episode, Jo, played by Kelly Macdonald, found out that her biological dad was actually her uncle, OCG boss Tommy Hunter, who raped her mum - his sister - when they were teenagers.

During the interview, Jo said she'd been told her father was a bent copper but refused to say who, and she had no idea about the truth until it was uncovered by DNA on the police database.

And fans are convinced they've worked out who she was told her dad was — Marcus Thurwell, who is played by James Nesbitt.

One tweeted: "Jo Davidson thought Marcus Thurwell was her real dad and he's not really dead, he's alive and head of the OCG and is the 4th man Hastings is looking for."

"I think Jo Davidson believed Marcus Thurwell was her father," another posted.

A third said: "Marcus Thurwell is 100% who Jo Davidson thought was her dad. Also, don't think he's really dead."

"So Marcus Thurwell isn't dead is he? And he's who Jo Davidson believed to be her dad?" another wrote.

Thurwell became AC-12's prime suspect for H when they discovered he was the link between two major incidents of police corruption.

Gail Vella was investigating the link between police corruption and the cover-ups of two big cases before her murder; the Sands View child abuse scandal and the racially motivated death of Lawrence Christopher, and Thurwell is linked to both of these cases.

Thurwell wrote off the death of the whistleblower for the Sands View case as suicide, and he also shut down the case against Christopher's killers, of which a suspect was Hunter's son Darren.

In episode six, AC-12 worked with the police to do a raid on Thurwell's house in Spain.

The cops discovered the body of Thurwell and his wife, but some believe he faked his own death to avoid being caught.

It's even been suggested that the Spanish officer doing the raid was played by Nesbitt himself.
