Line of Duty fans can't get over Martin Compston's real accent

Line of Duty star Martin Compston floored viewers with his real accent when he appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show.

Martin has appeared in all six series of the BBC One police corruption show as DI Steve Arnott, and away from the drama the actor's true accent was a revelation to many fans.

In Line of Duty his character speaks with a south east London accent, but as Martin chatted to host Jonathan alongside his co-star McClure, who plays undercover specialist Kate Fleming in the popular show, they marvelled at how different he sounds.

Fans flocked to Twitter to remark on the star's Scottish accent.

"Ahhh I love @martin_compston's real life Scottish accent," swooned one viewer with a smiling face emoji with heart-shaped eyes.

"I’m so used to hearing Martin Compston’s cockney accent that he sounds like he’s putting his Scottish one on," said another.

"Wow... I just said to my hubby 'Martin Compston is great at doing the Scottish accent'" said another fan.

The sixth series airing on BBC1 on Sundays reaches its conclusion with a seventh episode tonight, and it has left viewers on the edge of their seats.

Martin's character attracts attention from ladies in the BBC show, with him regularly switching partners throughout the series.

The Scottish actor is a former professional footballer who was a youth player for Aberdeen FC before signing for local team Greenock Morton FC.

Martin, 36, was born in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland.

His first acting role was a lead role in the Ken Loach film Sweet Sixteen.

Since then he's gone on to star in TV shows and films including Monarch of the Glen, Damned United and The Nest.
