Line of Duty fans convinced deleted old trailer proves Kate Fleming's fate

Line of Duty star Vicky McClure was seen alive and well on Monday – as viewers claimed to have cracked the case over whether DI Kate Fleming survives.

As Vicky, 37, popped out to the shops, eagle-eyed fans pointed to an early trailer of the BBC One show as proof Kate will emerge unscathed from her shoot-out with PC Ryan Pilkington.

It was posted before the drama began last month by showrunner Jed Mercurio and yesterday fans were re-posting it, with one caption simply saying: “It’s OK Kate fans.”

Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) is seen trying to persuade someone – probably Pilkington – into giving themselves up. Over a loudhailer, he says: “This is Superintendant Hastings – you’ll be treated fairly with the full protection of the law.”

His words are followed by a shot of DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston), then two people who appear to be Kate and Acting DS Jo Davidson, with her hands up.

The trailer ends with a lingering look at Kate’s rage-filled face, followed by a shot of her touching her gun.

She is in the same clothes 9.9million viewers saw her wearing on Sunday for her meeting with Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) in a lorry park.

The episode became the most-watched drama instalment of the year and is the second highest programme behind Oprah Wiinfrey’s ITV interview with Harry and Meghan.

Yesterday actor Adrian, 62, was keeping tight-lipped as he appeared on Good Morning Britain. He said: “A lot of fans know what is going on. There is a clue out there.”

Asked if Kate would be appearing in a seventh series, he laughed: “I’d love to help you but I’d have to kill you.”
