Newly released photographs have teased an apparently major event in the next episode of Line of Duty

Viewers were left shocked after the show’s latest twist took everyone by surprise.

Jed Mercurio’s BBC drama broadcast its fourth episode of series six on Sunday (11 April), and it ended with a revelation that will keep fans busy until episode five airs.

In new photos from the next instalment, DCI Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) is joined by Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and Chris (Perry Fitzpatrick) at what appears to be a crime scene.

The three officers are seen dressed in bullet proof vests and looking extremely tense in the first look at episode five.

The pictures prompt a number of questions, especially in light of the latest curveball.

Arnott revealed the news to Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), and handed him a file featuring the details of the person who is “identified over the page”.

Following the episode’s broadcast, viewers were quick to swap theories over the identity of the mystery relative.

We know it’s a male character, as Arnott refers to the unknown person as a male, but whose face was on that page?

Elsewhere, viewers think that the latest episode saw DI Arnott discover key information that he’s currently withholding from Hastings.

Line of Duty continues on BBC One on Sunday (18 April) at 9pm.
