Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio says working on the show has "been the highlight of his career".
The Bodyguard writer, 55, took to social media to share his love for Line of Duty and its stars ahead of the show concluding its current sixth series.
Actress Vicky McClure, who plays DI Kate Fleming on the BBC One drama, had shared her own emotional message on social media on Sunday where she paid tribute to her co-stars and Mercurio himself.
Of Jed, Vicky had penned: "Raising my brew to you Jed Mercurio! The epitome of honesty & integrity."
Now the writer has shared Vicky's lengthy message and tweeted his own, penning on Sunday: "Working with @Vicky_McClure @martin_compston #AdrianDunbar has been the highlight of my career."
He added: "Thanks to the rest of the cast, our brilliant crews and the production team @worldprods @BBCOne @BBCTwo for six incredible seasons."
With the future of the series after the sixth series finale unclear, naturally, the show's fans took to the comments to share their gratitude for the BBC crime drama.
One follower of Jed's penned: "Thank you for such a brilliant show! I don't like how final this sounds though!"
Unforgotten star Sanjeev Bhaskar replied to Jed: "You’ve created quite the team Jed. Congratulations and more power to the lot of you x".
Meanwhile, another fan of the series commented: "We’ve massively enjoyed every episode...thank you ALL for the brilliant, compelling and often nail biting storytelling. It’s deservedly become a national phenomenon...and if you’ve ended it - then respect for not bowing to all our pressure!"
Elsewhere, one Line of Duty fan commented: Jed you’ve done an incredible job with the story. @Vicky_McClure @martin_compston & Adrian Dunbar have been incredible. Will miss you guys being on screen. Jeds tweet sounds so final. I hope maybe in the future maybe a Series 7 could appear [prayer hands emoji]".
Finally, one fan of Mercurio's work concluded: "Jed you genius. I hope this isn't an end! I hope to god there's a series 7!"

The BBC official synopsis for the final episode reads: "With time running out, AC-12 attempt to unmask 'H', the Fourth Man (or Woman) commanding the network of corrupt officers behind the murder of Gail Vella. But sinister and powerful forces appear intent on orchestrating a cover-up."
