Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio responds to claims of 'confirmed seventh series'

Rumours suggesting Line Of Duty will return for a seventh series have been shut down by show writer Jed Mercurio.

Over the weekend, news reports claimed bosses of the hit crime drama had drawn up plans for another series after a string of secret meetings.

The news came as fans called for a seventh series following the finale episode in May, which revealed the identity of H.

A source told the Daily Star: "Another series is happening. This is the news millions of fans have been hoping for.

“A lot of stuff still needs to be agreed and it is likely to take a while. Fans will probably have to wait a few years before it airs on TV.”

However, the creator of the show, Jed Mercurio has since tweeted that these rumours aren't true.

He said: “Tabloids announce new season of fake #LineofDuty clickbait,” claims TV insider."

There has been no official comment made by the BBC on a seventh series.

The BBC's chief content officer Charlotte Moore said in a statement: "I'm looking forward to having a conversation with the team about where we go next and what the future of the series might be."

This year’s Line Of Duty was a huge hit for the BBC.

The final episode was watched by 15m viewers, breaking television records.

Line of Duty also won two categories at the National Television Awards in September.
