Line Of Duty cop Vicky McClure got sacked from Boots job for 'stealing' make-up

She plays a TV detective on screen but Line Of Duty star Vicky McClure has had her own run-in with the law... after ‘stealing’ make-up from Boots.

The actor, who plays DI Kate Fleming, told how she was sacked from the pharmacy when they discovered she had been using their make-up.

Vicky, 36, says: “I did some time at Boots but I got fired as I was trying on all the make-up.”

She also riled customers by playing loud rap music with rude lyrics. She adds: “When I was there [the counter] had its own record player and I was like ‘Oh great’.

"So the next day I brought in my own CDs and put Missy Elliott on. I listened to it and it was all fine to me but then people would look.”

Line of Duty's Vicky McClure stars as an anti-corruption cop opposite Martin Compston (The New Day)

Vicky was speaking at Red magazine’s Smart Women Week in London.

Reflecting on the different jobs she has had over the years, Vicky adds: “I once worked in a tanning shop. They offered me free tans but I was like ‘No, it’s OK’.

“People used to come in and say, ‘Oooh, it’s hot in there’. I didn’t last long.”

Ironically, her first ever job involved trying to root out thieves at jewellery store H Samuel.

She's best known for playing Detective Sergeant Kate Fleming (BBC/World Productions/ Adian Monaghan)

She says: “I worked there and got a bit of responsibility and had to check on people who worked there to make sure that they hadn’t stolen anything.”

Vicky is now one of TV’s most in-demand stars. But she admits that the cast of BBC drama Line Of Duty also get up to no good, drawing rude pictures in their police notebooks.

She adds: “We do mess about. We have those little notebooks and during a scene someone might draw something. I’ll leave that to your imagination.”

Charming.
