The BBC has given viewers hints about what to expect in the next episode of Line of Duty, following a particularly explosive episode last Sunday (11 April).
Spoilers follow for Line of Duty episode four...
Series six, episode four, which aired last week, saw Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) survive a dramatic shoot-out as a police convoy is attacked by the OCG.
Then, at the end of the episode, it is revealed that dodgy DSI Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) is in fact the blood relative of an as-yet-unrevealed figure from the series’ past.
The Davidson mystery in particular has got fans combing through the season for clues, with speculation rife as to the identity of her kin.
It has already been confirmed that Anna Maxwell-Martin, who plays senior anti-corruption Detective Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael, will return to the series in episode five.
Now, the BBC has also released a plot synopsis for Line of Duty’s next instalment, giving fans a few oblique clues as to what’s on the cards.
The synopsis reads: “AC-12 link Gail Vella’s murder with a historic case of police corruption, and Kate hatches a plan to tell once and for all if Jo is bent.
“They are closer than ever to cracking the case, but when Hastings’ authority is undermined it leaves his team in a potentially dangerous situation.”
The reference to Ted Hastings’ (Adrian Dunbar) authority being undermined could suggest that the plan to force him into retirement and close down AC-12 will come to light – or perhaps Steve Arnott will expose the wads of OCG money he found in Steph Corbett’s attic.
Line of Duty continues at 9pm on Sunday on BBC One.
