Line of Duty: Adrian Dunbar tells GMB the 'hardcore fans' will know what happened Kate Fleming at end of Episode 5

Adrian Dunbar has spoken about last night's dramatic Line of Duty cliffhanger on Good Morning Britain.

The actor, who plays Ted Hastings on the show, told Susanna Reid that "Jed loves his cliffhangers", as he dropped hints about Kate Fleming's fate, following her dramatic shootout scene with Ryan Pilkington.

"We don't know [what happened] yet," he says. "I know, and a lot of Line of Duty fans know."

He then hints that the 'hardcore' Line of Duty fans might have been able to work out Kate's fate, based on clues left from earlier episodes.

He says "A lot of Line of Duty fans know what's going on. All will be revealed in the fullness of time. There's been a very big clue that people haven't caught onto."

He then tells the Good Morning Britain presenters: "This is a scoop, as the first guest to returning to this show. There is a clue out there as to what happens next and the hardcore fans know."

Dunbar then tells Susanna Reid that, if she hasn't worked it out, she might not be a 'hardcore' fan yet, but just 'core'.

Reid then asks about the computer in Jo Davidson's apparent, and the typing of the word 'definitely' with the wrong spelling. She then asks if she's in the 'hardcore' fan category yet."

Adrian Dunbar says: "You're getting there, but you're not there where this present clue is concerned."

While fans no doubt try to work out exactly what Adrian Dunbar could mean, the star also talked about how Line of Duty has remained a success, despite still having a weekly-episode format.

He said: "Line of Duty does seem a bit old school, in that people are happy to watch it, talk abut it, and wait a week for the next episode. Je structures it like that. And because of the twists and cliffhangers, you can't just leave it. You have to watch it, because you're going to find people talking about it during the week."

The star said that the show has reached "13 million consolidated viewers during the week. He also said that all made it harder than ever to not reveal spoilers.

"The BBC have people who send me notes and say, 'you cannot talk about this, this and this.' Now and again leaks do happen though."

The Northern Irish man also revealed that stars of Line of Duty don't get the scripts from the last episode until "very late in the day", meaning they begin filming the first few episodes without learning what's going to happen to each character.

"Jed'll tell us, 'Can you just look over there, look at that character'. Just in case they turn out to be corrupt."

Asked about whether or not there'll be a second series, Dunbar said: "I'm sure if the numbers are good, the BBC will want to do another series."

However, the actor was a bit more cagey when asked about whether Ted Hastings would appear in another series, saying: "I have no idea."

Similarly, when asked about whether or not Kate would appear, Adrian Dunbar said: "It's hard to tell? I wish I could help you, but I'd have to kill you."
