Lindsey Lagestee dead – Dixie Crush country singer killed by car aged 25

Country singer Lindsey Lagestee has died at the age of 25 after being knocked down by a car.

The musician, who sang in the cover band Dixie Crush, was on her way to a gig in Chicago, Illinois on Valentine's Day when she was run down and fatally injured while crossing the road.

Her devastated bandmates confirmed the awful news on Facebook, paying tribute to her in a post.

"Some of you may have already heard the terrible news, but It is with the heaviest of hearts, we sadly share that Lindsey Renee passed away on Monday due to complications from the accident last Friday," they wrote.

"Our hearts are broken over this senseless tragedy."

The band went on: "From the very beginning, everyone knew she was something special. Her Uncle Tony described her best as a supernova.

"Above and beyond her beautiful voice, Lindsey just had a way of connecting with every audience leaving an indelible impression. Not only would she give an amazing performance, but after every show, Lindsey would come offstage, take time to meet anyone who wanted to say hi, take pictures, and build friendships."

It added: "Above and beyond being an incredible performer, great friend, and the best bandmate, Lindsey was a loving daughter to Linda and Vaughn, compassionate sister to Lauren, Carrie, and Samantha, adoring aunt to Andrew, Colin, Danielle, Alexander, and Amber, and wonderful girlfriend to Kevin."

Her co-Dixie Crush star Jim Nonneman told Taste Of Country how Lindsey was crossing the road on her way to the band's gig at Chicago's Firewater Saloon when the accident happened.

"She had just parked a couple of blocks down for the club we were scheduled to play," he revealed.

"She exited her pickup truck and was making her way to the venue when she was struck by a car."

Lindsey was rushed to hospital immediately after the collision, but despite battling to save her, doctors were at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn were unable to do so.

Lindsey co-founded the band in 2015 after graduating from Midwestern University with a doctorate.

Dixie Crush played more than 250 gigs around the Midwest of the United States in the five years since.

A funeral to lay Lindsey to rest is being arranged by her family today and a GoFundMe page has been set up in her name.
