Lindsey Burrow reveals how Kevin Sinfield's small gesture became 'turning point' for husband Rob in battle with MND

Rob and Lindsey Burrow paid special thanks to Kevin Sinfield on ITV This Morning today (May 24).

Kevin Sinfield appeared on ITV This Morning on Wednesday along with Rob Burrow and his wife Lindsey via video link from their home in Leeds. He spoke of the pair's heart-warming finish at the Rob Burrow marathon in the city on Sunday, May 14, which saw Kevin carry his best friend across the finish line and reduce people to tears.

In this morning's episode of the ITV show, Rob's wife, Lindsey, told viewers: "Kevin has stood by Rob from day one and even after his diagnosis he took Rob up to see the great late Doddie Weir and that was a real turning point for us because Doddie gave Rob so much hope and that has been instilled in Rob in his battle and fight with MND."

She continued: "Kev is just an extra special person and as Rob said everyone needs a friend like Kev and we are just so grateful for the support and friendship that Kev has given." Kevin went on to talk about how good of a Leeds Rhino player Rob was back in the day.

He said: "He was superman, he just had superpowers. He terrorised the big men, a lot of big men targeted Rob but he got his own back and more - in big games he delivered, he came up with big moments for us. It was an incredible team we both played in.

He added: "I think its unfair not to mention Lindsey running the marathon, she raised just short of £100,000 - she did an amazing job. She was very close behind and nearly beat us, she did a wonderful job.

Presenter Alison Hammond added that Lindsey ran the marathon with a knee injury. Lindsey said: "It was just about getting past that finish line and a bit of knee pain wasn't going to stop me, look at what Rob and some of the members of the MND community go through so that was nothing really.

"It was a brilliant occasion and I'm just so proud to have done my little bit to help."

Speaking of the finishing moment of the marathon Kevin spoke about how it didn't go to plan, claiming the pairs initial idea for the finale was for Rob to have some weight in his feet to walk across the finish line, however because of the heat on the day it had taken its toll on them both.

He said: "We realised during the marathon it had taken its toll on all of us, it was a really hot day and everyone is training in the cold and the wet and the wind and suddenly you turn up on marathon day and it's 18/19C so suddenly it changed.

"Rob got uncomfortable at times in the chair as well, it was the first time we had gone that distance and it meant we had to get him out the chair a fair bit - we had 28 minutes of stoppages. So yeah we had to change but actually I wouldn't have had it any other way, it was a beautiful moment."
