Lindsay Lohan is at the centre of a new lawsuit over a 2014 book deal, which publishers HarperCollins allege she never delivered on - despite paying her a $365,000 advance. HarperCollins filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court on Thursday regarding the contract which was struck between the publishers and Crossheart Productions, Lohan’s company.
HarperCollins’s lawsuit asks that Lohan pays the publishers the cost of the advance plus interest, as well as “further relief as this Court deems to be just and proper” in legal documents via USA Today.
The biographical book is believed to focus on a journal that Lohan had kept while seeking treatment at a rehabilitation centre in 2013.
Although Lohan was reportedly meant to have finished the book by May 1, 2015, the deadline was eventually shifted in 2016 to March 15, 2017.
However, the publishers allege the book never materialised and HarperCollins terminated their contract in 2018; expecting Lohan to give back her advance. The company alleges she never returned the money.
According to documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, the suit claims, “by failing to return the money to the Plaintiff upon the Defendants’ breach of the agreement, the Defendants have received a windfall and have been unjustly enriched.”
