Linda Porter, best known for her role as elderly supermarket employee Myrtle on the US sitcom Superstore, has died at the age of 86.

Porter died 25 September after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1933, Porter began her professional career in 1988. Her credits included the films Dude, Where’s My Car?, Twins, The Truth About Cats & Dogs and Netflix’s Pee-wee’s Big Holiday.

In 2017, she played the recurring role of Lady Slot-Addict in David Lynch’s revival of Twin Peaks, while she appeared in TV series including The X-Files, Frasier, The Mindy Project and American Horror Story.

On Twitter, Superstore actor Ben Feldman paid tribute to Porter. “Here’s hoping the angels don’t call cut right away because your best stuff always came at the end,” he wrote. “We’ll miss you Linda Porter.”

Feldman was joined by Superstore creators Gabe Miller and Jonathan Green in remembering the actor, the pair writing in a statement: “Linda wasn’t just hilarious, she was incredibly sweet, energetic and enthusiastic – working with her brightened everyone’s day.

“We’re lucky to have been a small part of her long career. The Superstore family won’t be the same without her.”
