Linda Pizzuti sends Liverpool message as Jurgen Klopp's side are made to wait for title

Liverpool may not have got the result they wanted in their Merseyside derby with Everton on Sunday, but their return to action seemed to please owner John W Henry's wife Linda Pizzuti.

After a long break from playing owing to the coronavirus outbreak, the Reds took to the pitch for the the first time in over three months at the weekend.

The gap in matches appeared to have taken its toll on Jurgen Klopp's men as the Premier League leaders were far from their rampant best seen earlier in the campaign.

As it was, the Anfield club were perhaps a touch fortunate not to lose a league game for only the second time this term as their cross-town rivals had the better chances with Tom Davies hitting the post late on for the Toffees.

The draw left Liverpool's chances of securing a first title in 30 years at home to Crystal Palace on Wednesday in jeopardy, with the champions-elect now needing rivals Man City to drop points at home to Burnley on Monday.

It still, though, seems a case of when, rather than if, Klopp's men will ultimately be crowned champions of England with the Reds still a mammoth 23 points clear at the summit.

And while the title party may have been delayed by the result, Pizzuti took to social media site Twitter to reveal her delight at seeing Liverpool back in action following a lengthy lay-off.

She posted: "After 106 days, @LFC returned to the pitch. We took just one point from the goalless Merseyside derby today, with 5 more points needed. Wonderful to watch them play, though definitely different without fans."

Should City drop points against Burnley, Liverpool can clinch the title with victory at home to Palace in midweek.

However, a victory for Pep Guardiola's men would delay any title party until at least Thursday when they host Chelsea, again needing a win to prolong the Reds' wait to be crowned champions.
