Linda Pizzuti makes VAR point after Liverpool decision against Aston Villa

Liverpool may have got all three points against Aston Villa, but the game was not without controversy.

Linda Pizzuti, wife of Liverpool owner John W. Henry, has criticised VAR after a goal was disallowed at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side recorded a 2-1 win over Villa in the Premier League on Saturday, with second half goals from Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold securing the points.

It was Liverpool’s first league win at home since before Christmas, and ended a run of six consecutive league defeats on their own patch.

Prior to Liverpool equalising to cancel out Ollie Watkins’ opener, the Reds thought they had a goal when Roberto Firmino poked the ball home in first-half stoppage time.

However, VAR ruled that Diogo Jota, who picked up the ball in the build-up, was offside and so the goal was disallowed.

The decision led to widespread criticism of VAR across social media, and now Pizzuti has got in on the act.

On her Instagram story, Pizzuti posted a picture of the offside involving Jota, accompanied by the caption: “Shadows over VAR”.

This is not the first time that Liverpool have had marginal offside calls go against them this season, with the most notable being Jordan Henderson’s late strike in the Merseyside derby in October, as well as a Salah strike against Brighton in November.
