Linda and Denise Nolan's heartbreaking search for long-lost sister amid DNA test

Linda and Denise Nolan have laid their feelings bare amid their heartbreaking search for their long-long secret sister.

The singing sisters, who are from an Irish family of eight children, have opened up on their search for their half sibling as they await the results of a DNA test.

Linda and Denise, who found fame in 1974 with their band of siblings, The Nolan Sisters, discovered their dad Thomas Nolan fathered another child following an affair.

The woman welcomed a bay girl who was believed to have been born around 1952 and would therefore be the same age as Denise, who’s 68.

Linda and sister Maureen recently appealed to find on Ray D’Arcy’s radio show as their mission to find their sister was explored on their TV show At Home with the Nolans, and Maureen put her DNA into a database in a bid to find their half-sibling.

Linda and Denise have now opened up to OK! Online about their heartbreak in searching for their long-lost relative.

Linda, who recently revealed her breast cancer has spread to her liver, explained that their mum told told the family of their sister when their dad died.

“When our dad died our mum told us that we had a sibling and she thought it was a girl, and she was happy for us to try and find her,” she told the publication.

“She told us how it happened and that dad had a fling and this woman was pregnant the same time mum was pregnant and I’m one of the ones who is so excited.

“It was Maureen who went further and she did the DNA test and so we might find something out.”

Denise admitted she was “one of the reticent ones” when it came to looking for their half sibling.

She explained: “I thought I really don’t want to upset anybody and I thought her mother may never have told her.

“But if we do find her I’ll welcome her with open arms if everything turns out right, but at the time I thought I really don’t want to open up a can of worms.”

In December, Loose Women star Coleen Nolan revealed she believed she may have found her missing sibling on an episode of At Home With The Nolans.

Their potential nephew contacted Coleen to tell her his mum wants to talk.

The telly personality explained to her sisters: “So I’m sitting watching telly with the family the other night, and I get a message on social media from a lovely chap who thinks his mother might be our long lost sister!

Coleen reads out the message: “Her birth certificate has been defaced, but her father’s name on the birth certificate is Thomas Nolan.

“Mum has searched in vain for years for her biological father and mum’s even ordered a DNA test.”

The sisters are now awaiting DNA results to find out if the woman is in fact their lost sister.
