Lin-Manuel Miranda stuns 'Hamilton' in Detroit audience with surprise visit

DETROIT _ Lin-Manuel Miranda made a surprise visit Tuesday night to the room where it was happening in Detroit.

The "Hamilton" show's creator walked onstage during the show's curtain call at the Fisher Theatre to huge cheers and a standing ovation from the stunned audience.

Miranda made his appearance just as cast members were encouraging theater-goers to donate to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, which helps people across the country with medications, health care, emergency financial assistance and more.

Hiding in the wings, he live-recorded his appearance on Periscope.

"You may have heard of this guy Lin Manuel Miranda ... so Lin is not here," said a cast member.

"Yes, I am," whispered Miranda, who also played Alexander Hamilton in the original Broadway run, before making his unexpected entrance.

As the crowd went wild, Miranda yelled, "What's up, Detroit?" He also thanked everyone for supporting live theater.

"I love you, Detroit," he said.

Later on Twitter, Miranda posted, "Gracias DETROIT!" And he shared a photo of himself with actors Hannah Cruz, who plays Eliza Hamilton, and Edred Utomi, Detroit's Hamilton.

"Whoops, stayed up late talking to Hamilton & Eliza in Detroit," he wrote.

Fans on social media expressed their joy at the Tuesday night drop-by. "I saw Hamilton tonight and when @Lin_Manuel came out I SCREAMED. Easily the best night of my life," tweeted Kennedy Desotell.

"YOU WERE THERE AND WE WERE THERE TOO!!! OMG. This music teacher is dying of happiness," tweeted Kathryn Covington.
