Lin-Manuel Miranda: Student misses US history class to hang out with Hamilton star

Tamara Stevens/ Twitter

A student at Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia skipped his history class to hang out with the creator of Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

A tweet posted by student Luke Stevens’ mother, Tamara Stevens, revealed that he had informed his teacher the day before that Miranda was visiting the family’s home.

After the teacher proved difficult to convince, Miranda helped provide evidence in the form of a video.

“This is Lin Manuel Miranda. I’m sorry [Luke] can’t be in US history class, but he’s with me right now, and we’re going to go over Bill of Rights and anything you may be covering right now,” he explained.

He added: “We cover a lot in about two-and-a-half hours of Hamilton, but we’re gonna go over it in specifics now. So this is not lost time, thank you for excusing him from class.”

The teacher, who turned out to be a huge fan of the Puerto Rican producer and actor, was overjoyed by the video.

“OMG!!!! I AM FREAKING OUT,” she wrote in an email to Luke.

“Tell him I just saw the show for the first time and I love it! We will be using his songs tomorrow to teach about Washington’s precedents and the cabinet battles!!”

She added: “Thank you so much for sending the video!! I am so happy right now!!!!!”

Miranda was in the Atlanta area attending a fundraiser birthday function for Tamara Stevens, as she helped raise money for the Black Voters Matter Fund and the New Georgia Project.
