
Osaka -- Kansai Airport partially resumed international flights on Saturday following a suspension in the wake of Typhoon No. 21.
A total of 14 flights were to arrive or depart using Runway B, which was only slightly damaged, and operations resume at the Terminal 2 Building, similar to the resumption of domestic flights on Friday. The flights include aircraft of the low-cost carrier Peach Aviation, which is based at the airport.
Shortly after noon on Saturday, an All Nippon Airways flight departed from the airport bound for Shanghai in the first flight since the closure. According to the Kansai Airports Company, on Saturday there were to be 12 Peach flights bound for Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong and other destinations, as well as two All Nippon Airways flights bound for Shanghai at the airport. Six cargo flights were also to arrive or depart.
Regarding domestic flights, Peach Aviation and Japan Airlines were to operate 31 and two, respectively, which was more services than those on Friday.
Due to the typhoon, Runway A, and Terminal 1 Building, where major airlines and other firms are based, had been flooded. However, the damages were repaired on Friday. Kansai Airports Company indicated its intention to resume operations at those facilities within a week, restoring electrical equipment and machinery there.
