Limit on spectators at Japan baseball games eased from Sept. 19

The 12 professional baseball teams held an extraordinary executive committee meeting online on Saturday and confirmed that the limit on the number of spectators will be eased from the current 5,000 to 50% of a venue's capacity starting on Sept. 19, in accordance with the government policy to ease limits for large events.

The 12 teams will now decide on the percentage and timing of the increase at their own discretion.

Nippon Professional Baseball Commissioner Atsushi Saito has released a comment saying that the NPB will work even harder to prevent infections. "I hope that our efforts will contribute to the management of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics coming up next year and serve as a guideline for other sporting events," Saito said.

Following the executive committee's decision, the Yomiuri Giants have announced that they will raise the limit on the number of spectators to Tokyo Dome to 19,000 starting from the game against the Hiroshima Toyo Carp on Sept. 21, the first game they will host after Sept. 19.
