Limerick promise PFA Ireland that outstanding wages will be paid this week

Limerick have give assurances to the PFA Ireland that players will be paid outstanding wages and expenses this Thursday.

Ollie Cahill from the players’ body and Denis Hynes from SIPTU travelled to Limerick yesterday for a meeting with club owner Pat O’Sullivan.

Sean Connor, the former League of Ireland manager who is representing a prospective group of investors in Limerick FC, also attended.

Last Thursday, the Limerick squad served notice on the club that they would strike if they did not receive their outstanding pay.

At yesterday’s meeting, it was established that the FAI’s hardship fund of €300,000 is available to the players in the event wages are not paid over a period of time.

But that can only be tapped into if the club itself initiates it - not the players or PFA Ireland - and doing so carries a six-point deduction.
