Limerick hurling coach takes up full time role with Ulster Rugby

Limerick's strength and conditioning coach Michael Kiely has left the Treaty County's setup to take up a full-time role with Ulster Rugby.

The influential coach played a significant part in the Limerick success story, having joined John Kiely's backroom team in 2019 ahead of their subsequent back-to-back All-Ireland hurling titles in 2020 and 2021.

Kiely had previously worked with the Limerick football team and in 2013 he was part of a Clare U21 hurling setup that claimed an All-Ireland title.

And having linked up with the Irish province during their pre-season preparations, Kiely will now assume the role in a full-time capacity.

Ulster Head Coach Dan McFarland was very happy with the capture of Kiely, outlining the 'different dimension' he would offer the team.

He said: “Mikey will bring a different dimension, a different perspective, and we’re always looking for that, guys that can disrupt the common thinking, change things up, give us a different idea.

"He’s been with us for a number of weeks, he popped back down to win an All-Ireland and has now popped back up again.

"It’s great to have him on board."
