Limerick FC players receive outstanding wages after financial crisis

Limerick players were due to receive their outstanding wages and expenses last night.

The club owner and chairman Pat O’Sullivan met with the squad yesterday morning and assured them they would be paid.

May's wages and expenses are also due to be paid next week.

Players served strike notice on the club last week, insisting they would carry through with the threat if there were further delays.

Earlier this week, Ollie Cahill from the PFAI and SIPTU’s Denis Hynes travelled to Limerick yesterday for crisis talks with O’Sullivan.

Sean Connor, the former League of Ireland manager who is representing a prospective group of investors in Limerick FC, also attended. The FAI’s hardship fund of €300,000 is available to the Limerick players - five professionals and the rest amateur - in the event wages are not paid again.

But that can only be tapped into if the club itself initiates it - not the players or PFA Ireland - and doing so carries a six-point deduction.
