Limerick defender Richie English ruled out for the season

Limerick manager John Kiely has revealed that defender Richie English will be out for the rest of the season.

While it was a good day for Limerick on the pitch at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, the loss of the former All Star is a serious blow.

"Richie English unfortunately has picked up a cruciate knee ligament injury so his involvement this season is unfortunately come to an end.

"We will look after him and he will get the best of care in the weeks and months ahead and he has the full support of the management team and the panel or players,” said boss Kiely.

“Richie is a real solid guy and he will bounce back from this and will work real hard to get back to where he was.

“It is one of those things that you can’t legislate for – we have had Richie McCarthy, Paul Browne, Seán Finn in the past. Every group of players over time will have a number of those injuries and there is no rationale for why.”

“There are a number of guys coming back into contention,” he added.

“Adrian Breen is back in training, Peter Casey is back training, Tom Condon has a broken finger but he is well over halfway in terms of getting back on track.”

Despite the defeat, Cork manager Kieran Kingston was happy to see his team score more goals than the opposition for the fourth straight League game.

“Yeah, we’re getting a few in every game which is great,” he said.

“I suppose one of the issues we’ve had over the years and it’s been well documented and something that we’re obviously working on.

“It doesn’t come off all the time but, look, goals win games, even though they didn’t today, but it’s important for us to be challenging the goal and something we’re working on and so far, so good.”
