Limerick community left 'in deep shock and dismay' after four tragic deaths in days

A community has been left reeling after a number of deaths in the area in just a number of days.

Four people passed away last weekend during an Easter that has been described as one which the rural village of Adare, in Co Limerick, will never forget.

Last Thursday, a man in his 30s died in a farm accident at Kilgrogan in Adare.

It is believed that the Polish man was killed by a bull on the farm in a freak accident.

On Good Friday, a road collision took place at Kilgobbin in Adare which took the lives of two women.

Kerry native Mary Barry, aged in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision between her car and a jeep.

Tributes were paid to the mother-of-four from Tralee who was described as a "beautiful" person with "an amazing sense of humour and always a good story to tell".

The sad news that the driver of the jeep had passed away from her injuries in hospital was confirmed on Easter Sunday.

Siobhán Brosnan, from Ballybunion in Co Kerry, was taken to Limerick University Hospital with serious injuries but died two days later.

Ms Brosnan, who was in her 40s, worked as the organ donation nurse manager for the UL Hospitals Group.

The fourth tragedy over the weekend was the death of firefighter Des Fitzgerald.

Mr Fitzgerald, of the Old Cork Road and late of Castleisland and Adare, died in the city last Friday.

Emmett O'Brien, an Independent Councillor from Pallaskenry and Leas-Chathaoirleach of the Adare-Rathkeale Municipal District, said the local community had been shocked by the tragedies.

He told the Irish Mirror."It's been a very difficult and sad number of weeks in the Adare and the Adare-Rathkeale constituency.

"There's been a number of significant tragic deaths in Adare village itself which has left the community in deep shock and dismay.

"Some very popular people have passed away and I express my sympathies to their extended families."

Councillor O'Brien added that other personal tragedies have also occurred in the region in recent weeks.

He added: "We also had some other personal tragedies along the Shannon estuary over the last number of weeks which have left the community shocked and in despair against the continuing level five lockdown and it has been testing people's patience and their goodwill towards the continuing lockdown.

"It's a very hard time for everybody and I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to those people that have passed so tragically and through personal tragedies in the last number of weeks."
