Lime Street Station crowds left waiting as London trains 'cancelled'

Cancelled trains left passengers crowded on Lime Street station's concourse this morning.

Footage shows crowds of passengers waiting on platforms for an Avanti West Coast service. One passenger claimed the 9.47am to London Euston had been cancelled leaving the 10.47am packed before staff told them that the service was also cancelled.

This led to passengers swarming the platform attempting to board the next available service - the 11.47am train

One frustrated passenger shared a video on social media showing masses of people gathered. In a Tweet they said: "Anyone hoping to get on the 11.47 train from Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston… good luck. You can thank @AvantiWestCoast for cancelling services this morning.

"It’s a mess. Earlier trains were cancelled so the 10.38 was "severely overcrowded" (their words). We were all onboard sitting waiting to go for ages and then they announced it was cancelled and everyone had to get off."

One person was even left "in tears" after waiting at the station for over two hours through cancelled services meaning they had missed work.

Avanti West Coast has been approached for comment.
