Limavady incident leaves young cyclist in hospital

A young boy has been airlifted to hospital after a collision this afternoon.

Police said they were alerted to the incident in the Edenmore Road area of Limavady just before 4pm.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police received a report of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a young male cyclist in the Edenmore Road area of Limavady at around 3.50pm on Monday 8th April.

"The boy has been taken to hospital by Air Ambulance following the collision and the driver of the vehicle has been spoken to at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage is asked to contact police in Limavady on 101 quoting reference number 795 08/04/19."

The boy was taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

A Northern Ireland Ambulance spokesman said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 15:48 on Monday 8 April following reports of a young male child cyclist having been knocked down on the Edenmore Road, Limavady. 

"NIAS dispatched a rapid response paramedic and an emergency crew to the scene. 

"The Charity Air Ambulance, with the HEMS team on board was also tasked to the incident. 

"Following initial assessment and treatment at the scene, the child was transferred by air ambulance to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children."
