Lily James admits that she has 'slipped' into an American accent after Pam & Tommy role

Lily James just can't let go of playing Pamela Anderson - or so it seems, as her accent appears to have morphed into the American star's by mistake recently.

The former, 32, - who hails from Esher in Surrey and is very much British, with an accent to match - has played the Baywatch babe, 54, in Disney+ series Pam & Tommy.

As she sparkled in a revealing gold oufit on the red carpet for the series finale in Los Angeles recently though, her voice went seriously transatlantic.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she talked about what it was like to play Pam on screen, and said with a very strong American twang: "It's always such a huge responsibility to play someone, a real person, particularly with Pam."

Lily described Pamela as "an icon," adding: "I really love her, and I wanted to try and do her justice and try and capture her spirit and really explore what happened at that time and how she was treated and how things have changed, or not changed…"

At this point she clocked herself and realised she was making the audience cringe. "God, I'm slipping into an American accent and I don't know why!" she exclaimed. "Oh my God!"

After appearing in period drama series Downton Abbey for a few seasons, Lily got her breakthrough in film as the lead role in the live-action adaption of Disney's Cinderella (2015).

She went on to appear in shows such as War & Peace (2016) and has had roles in films including Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018), Yesterday (2019) and Rebecca (2020).

She has starred in Pam & Tommy alongside Sebastian Stan, who played Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. The series premiered last month, with its finale released this week.

Other cast members in the show - which had eight episodes - included Seth Rogen as Rand Gauthier, Nick Offerman as Uncle Miltie and Taylor Schilling as Erica Gauthier.
