Lily Douglas to help turn on Perth's Christmas lights

Perth schoolgirl Lily Douglas is set to help switch on this year’s Christmas lights after a community campaign.

Lily (11), who is battling with cancer, will join Provost Dennis Melloy on stage on Saturday, November 16 when the lights are officially turned on.

This comes after a local businessman Pete Chan rallied hundreds of people to call on Perth and Kinross Council to get the youngster up on stage for the event.

Now, a spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council has said: “Provost Dennis Melloy has spoken with the Douglas family and is happy to confirm that Lily Douglas will join him in celebrating Perth’s Christmas lights event on November 16.”

The lights will be officially turned on at 6.15pm after a day of celebrations, with entertainment from the likes of Atomic Kitten, Dario G, Alice Deejay and NTrance.

When the announcement of the star-studded line-up was announced earlier this week, Mr Chan started an online campaign on social media called ‘Make it happen PKC’ to get little Lily up on stage for the main event.
