Laurence Fox has poked fun at Lily Allen after the singer allegedly criticised his views on the media’s coverage of the Duchess of Sussex.
Earlier this week, the British actor was embroiled in controversy after he rejected claims that Meghan had been subjected to racism in the media, describing them as “boring”.
Fox was speaking on BBC’s Question Time and was labelled a “white privileged male” by academic Rachel Boyle, who was in the audience.
“Let’s be really clear about what this is, let’s call it by its name - it’s racism,” said Boyle. “She’s a black woman and she has been torn to pieces.”
The Lewis star responded: “It’s not racism. We’re the most tolerant, lovely country in Europe. It’s so easy to just throw your charge of racism at everybody and it’s starting to get boring now.”
Boyle replied: “What worries me about your comment is you are a white privileged male”, prompting Fox to roll his eyes.
“I can’t help what I am, I was born like this, it’s an immutable characteristic,” he said.
“So to call me a white privileged male is to be racist. You’re being racist.”
Many people have since levelled criticisms at Fox on social media, which the actor appears to be revelling in having described himself as “drinking all of these leftist tears”.
On Saturday, he tweeted screenshots he claims to have taken from Lily Allen’s Instagram story.
“Sick to death of luvvies like a Lawrence Fox going on TV and forcing their opinions on everybody else, when he’ll never have to deal with what normal people have to deal with in his gated community,” the caption reads.
“Stick to acting mate. Instead of ranting about things you don’t know anything about,” the message continued.
Fox tweeted the screenshots alongside the caption: “Lily Allen is the most stunningist and bravery artist in the whole wide world [sic].”
