Lily Allen has said that an unnamed ex accused her of having poor hygiene, something that the singer equated to “bullying and abuse”.
The 40-year-old made the revelation during a recent episode of her BBC podcast Miss Me?, which she co-hosts with her friend Miquita Oliver.
Allen and Oliver, 41, took questions from listeners about personal hygiene, with one fan asking: “Has anybody ever told you that you smell bad? And if they have, have they delivered that news to you very kindly or has it been more of a judgement and an attack?"
Allen, who recently split from her husband, theStranger Things actor David Harbour, recalled that an ex-partner of hers had questioned her personal hygiene during their relationship.
The “Smile” singer said: “It was somebody I was in a relationship with who would do it to me. And I don't think that it was real. I think that it was like a form of bullying and abuse.”
Allen continued: “Yeah, it was done on purpose to make me feel self-conscious and s*** about myself. And make them feel powerful.“
Oliver responded, stating: “It's a horrible one. As bullying forms of abuse go, it's a really horrible one."
Allen went on to say that the person in question had the “audacity” to question her hygiene despite the fact they had low standards themselves.
“When I first met them, I went over to their house and there were actual skid marks on their bed. They had the audacity to come to me and tell me that I needed to brush my teeth – no honey!” she said.

Allen’s comments come a month after she raised eyebrows in June when the singer revealed that she keeps a list of the friendships that she prioritises the most.
When answering a listener’s question about how to manage long-distance friendships, Allen said: “I create lists of people who I like in order of how much I like them.
“And I send that list to my assistant and just ask her to schedule the time for me to have a FaceTime with them.”
