Lille confirm interest in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos amid speculation

Lille have confirmed that they are interested in Alfredo Morelos.

It was reported on Sunday that the Rangers striker had agreed personal terms with the Ligue 1 club.

Morelos, who has scored 77 goals in 137 games for Rangers since arriving in 2017, has been linked with numerous other clubs including Lazio, Napoli and Everton.

French reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi has this evening tweeted that he spoke to Lille's owner Gérard López.

Bouhafsi quotes him as saying: "It is true that he interests us and that he is interested in the LOSC (Lille Olympique Sporting Club). We are in the middle of a discussion. "

With Morelos' fellow Rangers striker Jermain Defoe facing a spell on the sidelines, manager Steven Gerrard was already looking to strengthen in that position.

Speaking to Premier Sports on Saturday, he said: "We are actively looking to strengthen in that area, but as I said last week, we have to be patient and make sure that we get the right one in.

"We can't make a decision just for the short term. We have to think about the big picture, and the long term. We'll only go in for the right name who can help us over the course of 60 games, rather than someone who can help us for the next few weeks."
