Lille boss fires Celtic warning as Christophe Galtier puts a rocket up star striker ahead of Europa League clash

Lille coach Christophe Galtier has warned his players to keep their feet on the ground ahead of the clash with Celtic, as he fired a rocket up misfiring striker Jonathan David.

The Ligue 1 side welcome Neil Lennon 's side on Thursday, having thrashed Sparta Prague in their Europa League group opener.

The Dogues are top of the league after seven games and Galtier is keen to keep their feet on the ground ahead of the European test.

He said: "We must maintain this level.

"I tell my players that the squad has quality, they have to be demanding of each other.

"There won't be one squad for Ligue 1 and one for the Europa League, it will be done by the form of each other.

"If the players read the media there's a lot of praise, so I have to be the safeguard that ensures my players want to be better game after game.

"It will take a lot of collective effort."

Lille pursued Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos over the summer but cooled their interest after spending €30million on Jonathan David.

The 20-year-old is yet to score for his new club though and while his manager defended the youngster, he admits he wants more.

Galtier said: "We trust him, me and his team-mates.

"Some players integrate and adapt quickly, like Victor Osimhen last year and Sven Botman this year.

"It's been a bit more difficult for Jonathan we're not going to hide that.

"He knows it, I see it in his face. A goalscorer who does not score can sometimes start doubting himself.

"He must go deep inside himself to find the trigger.

"He's very young and maybe he underestimated the level of Ligue 1.

"He needs to look for something inside himself so he can perform again because there's no question he's a real goalscorer.

"He's obviously below his level but there will be a lot of matches.

"If he adheres to what we offer him I'm sure he'll be back among the goals soon."
