Lil Wayne faces lawsuit

As Mick Jagger sang menacingly back in 1965, "Don't play with me, 'cause you're playing with fire", and over 40 years later, US rapper Lil Wayne is learning just how true those words are.

A lawsuit was launched against the rapper yesterday for copyright infringement and unfair competition after he allegedly sampled the Stones song Play With Fire.

Abkco Music Inc, the label behind the Stones' songs, claims the rapper's version Playing With Fire obviously samples both the lyrics and melody of the Rolling Stones song without the band's permission. The same company successfully sued the Verve over their hit Bitter Sweet Symphony in 1997, claiming it samples the Stones' song The Last Time.

The company also alleges that Lil Wayne, real name Dwayne Michael Carter, uses "explicit, sexist and offensive language" that has not be approved by the band.
