Lil Nas X pretends to be pregnant with fake bump as he calls debut album his 'baby'

Lil Nas X has said that his "baby" is due on September 17 and posed with a fake baby bump to emphasise the point.

The 22-year-old rapper is not expecting a child though, and the mock pregnancy shoot was to promote the release of his debut album, Montero.

The performer, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, as hailed Megan Thee Stallion for inspiring him to do the shoot, saying that a verse on his song Dolla Sign Slime that she did was the catalyst.

Speaking to People about his album and the subsequent photoshoot, the rapper said: "I was like, 'Oh my God, this is amazing,' so I immediately called my stylist."

He continued: "She was like, 'Wow, this all comes together. Your album. Your baby.' I was like, 'Yeah, this is my baby, huh?' As a joke, she was like, 'Yeah, you should do a pregnancy shoot.'"

This struck a chord with Lil and he was soon getting it organised.

He continued: "I was like, 'You know what? That's actually brilliant. So now we have this entire thing coming out, and it's going to be amazing."

Speaking about the album, Lil Nas X said that he is playing the role of both parents to his "baby".

He continued: "I guess I am the father as well as the mother.

"But I guess the producers who worked on it are like the dads too. Or maybe uncles."

Lil Nas X created the album during the months of lockdown and has said that the process has been "therapeutic" during that time.

He explained: "I've changed in so many ways. I've changed the way that I handle a lot of situations, the way I manage my sadness and anger and just understanding that I don't have to react to emotions in certain ways.

"I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose how to react. I've learned to let people's comments roll off my back."

Lil Nas X says he learned "to have full faith in myself" as the album took shape.

He said: "The only person that really has to believe in me is myself. It's been a lot of self-affirmations this year that I probably would not have been able to do two years ago."

Speaking about the songs, he added: "You're getting a lot of stories about me.

"You're getting a lot of stories about my past and where I want to be in my love life. But they're also a bop.

"I feel like I finally found a great balance between being as real as possible within my music and making a hit song."
