Likud Presents Bill to Annex Jordan Valley, Impose Death Penalty on Palestinians

Head of the Likud party in the Knesset Miki Zohar submitted two draft bills to annex the Jordan Valley and the Hebron desert in the West Bank to Israel, and to impose the death penalty on Palestinians.

The two bills fall within the context of the internal political struggle, and a response to four bills to overthrow Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, submitted by the parties of Blue and White, headed by Benny Gantz, and Yisrael Beiteinu, headed by Avigdor Lieberman.

Zohar said that the two bills would embarrass Blue and White and Yisrael Beiteinu parties that are seeking to form a coalition with the support of a joint list.

“Let's see this wonderful cooperation between the joint list and between Yisrael Betteno and Blue and White,” he said, adding: “We will see how they will work together those who work against the state as a Jewish and democratic state and the members of Blue and White and Lieberman. These two laws are supported by Lieberman, and are supported by a portion of Blue and White’s members. Will we see them oppose these two legislation in order to please their new friends from the joint list?”

Zohar added that the alliance between Blue and White and Lieberman was based on a sole objective that is overthrowing Netanyahu.

For its part, the Palestinian Authority rejected the two bills. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry called for urgent international action to stop the projects for the “annexation and executions of Palestinians”, in order to preserve “the remaining credibility of international legitimacy and its decisions, before it is too late.”

“This plan is the actual implementation of the US peace plan, known as the Deal of the Century,” the ministry said, warning of the “serious repercussions” of the two bills on the achievement of peace on the basis of the two-state solution.
